First Lines combineerde ontwerp, projectmanagement en installatieadvies in een integraal plan. Door slimme indelingen, gescheiden stromen en nauwe samenwerking de aannemer werd het bestaande gebouw functioneel én toekomstbestendig vernieuwd.
Een veilige, efficiënte en representatieve werkomgeving voor forensisch onderzoek, waar medewerkers prettig kunnen werken en gasten professioneel worden ontvangen. Realisatie binnen planning en budget, met oog voor elk detail.

Laboratorium ICMP Den Haag – technische renovatie in historisch pand
Voor de internationale organisatie ICMP realiseerden wij een hoogwaardige laboratoriumomgeving in een historisch pand in Den Haag. De opdracht omvatte zowel kantoorruimtes als specialistische functies, waaronder een DNA-laboratorium, onderzoeksruimtes en faciliteiten voor forensische analyse. De combinatie van monumentale architectuur, strenge technische eisen en een gebouw dat volledig in gebruik moest blijven maakte dit een uitzonderlijk complexe opgave.
Een van de grootste uitdagingen was de staat van de bestaande installaties. Documentatie was onvolledig en delen van de basisinfrastructuur voldeden niet aan de hedendaagse eisen voor luchtkwaliteit, drukhiërarchie, koeling, ventilatie, energieverdeling en veiligheid. In nauwe samenwerking met ICMP hebben we stap voor stap de bestaande situatie in kaart gebracht, risico’s geanalyseerd en een uitvoerbaar plan ontwikkeld dat binnen het gebouw, de organisatie en de continuïteit paste.
Het DNA-lab vroeg om specifieke eisen op het gebied van luchtstromen, temperatuurstabiliteit, stof- en contaminatiebeheersing, beveiligde toegang, drukzones en materiaalkeuze. Tegelijkertijd moest het ontwerp passen in het historische karakter van het gebouw, met beperkte schachten, vaste structuur en installatiedruk die niet eenvoudig te verplaatsen was. Door intensieve samenwerking tussen het ontwerpteam, ICMP’s laboratoriumspecialisten en de uitvoerende partijen konden wij een oplossing realiseren die technisch betrouwbaar én toekomstbestendig is.
De oplevering van het laboratorium laat zien dat hoogwaardige techniek, monumentale bouw en continue bedrijfsvoering uitstekend samen kunnen gaan wanneer ontwerp, engineering en projectmanagement echt integraal worden aangepakt.
ICMP werkt wereldwijd aan complexe onderzoeken met hoge kwaliteits- en veiligheidseisen. Een project als dit vraagt om een partner die enerzijds laboratoriumprocessen begrijpt en anderzijds de technische beperkingen van een historisch pand kan vertalen naar mogelijke oplossingen. Door onze integrale rol, heldere communicatie en nauwe samenwerking met ICMP konden wij elke stap zorgvuldig afstemmen en risico’s beheersen.
Het resultaat is een modern, veilig en betrouwbaar laboratorium waar ICMP dagelijks met precisie en integriteit kan werken aan internationale onderzoeksopgaven.
ICMP The Hague – laboratory transformation within a complex historic building
For the International Commission on Missing Persons in The Hague we delivered a complete renovation of offices, laboratory spaces and a dedicated DNA laboratory inside a historic building. The project combined the challenges of highly specialised laboratory requirements with the limitations of a protected structure and the need to keep the organisation fully operational throughout the works. Every part of the design and execution demanded accuracy, coordination and an in depth understanding of laboratory workflows.
One of the most demanding aspects of the project was the condition of the existing building services. Documentation was incomplete or outdated and key elements of the infrastructure required investigation before decisions could be made. Together with ICMP specialists and technical partners we mapped the existing situation step by step, analysed constraints and developed a realistic plan that respected both the building and the scientific processes taking place inside it.
The DNA laboratory required strict conditions. Airflows had to be stable and predictable, pressure hierarchies had to be maintained, contamination risks needed to be minimised and temperature control had to operate with high consistency. At the same time the design had to respect the historic structure of the building with fixed shafts, limited ceiling depths and architectural elements that could not be altered. Through close cooperation with ICMP’s internal experts and the execution team we achieved a solution that is technically robust, safe and ready for long term scientific work.
The completed project shows that advanced laboratory environments can be realised within historic buildings when design, engineering and execution are handled as one integrated process. It also demonstrates that even highly sensitive operations can continue without interruption when planning and communication are carefully managed.
ICMP operates at a global level and requires laboratory spaces that meet strict scientific, operational and safety standards. A project of this complexity needs a partner who understands laboratory processes, realises technical constraints and translates both into feasible solutions.
